HELPING KARI BEAT HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA

KARI ROTE ANDREANO
HELPING KARI BEAT HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA

I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma on March 11, 2016. I am determined to laugh and smile through this whole process and invite you to laugh and smile with me... When you are a twenty something with a little one, you have to keep smiling...

Here is my timeline to diagnosis...

In December, I noticed lymphnode swelling. In January, it had either become less noticeable or I acclimated until the second week of Jan where I noticed it was visibly protruding on my neck when I looked up. My family urged me to go to the doc. A round of antibiotics, normal bloodwork, no change prompted a referral to the ENT. At this point I noticed pain when I drink in the lymphnodes all the way into my shoulder. One look at google told me I had Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I was tired and sleeping 10-12 hrs a day.  In February, I had another round of antibitoics. They found nodes on both side of my neck, the largest measuring 6.4cmx6cmx2cm. I noticed that I no longer enjoy taking walks over a mile. I used to walk 3+ miles twice a week. A fine needle biopsy was completed and came back 'normal' but it is definitely a lymph node.  I next had CT of the soft tissue of the neck. My doctor, after feeling the nodes felt that lymphoma was definitely a consoderation. We scheduled the excisional biopsy.

March 5th, they removed a supraclavicular node that was the size of a ping pong ball and looked very abnormal. She said it was hard to get out, sticking onto the tissue of other things and did not have smooth planes. It took an hour and a halfbto remove it as it was near the jugular, parotid, and spinal accessory nerve.

March 10th at my post op, I was told it was Hodgkin Lymphoma as a preliminary diagnosis. I got the confirmation on the 11th around 11:15 AM.

I started at MD Anderson 3/28. Follow my journey post diagnosis at:
